Welcome to low carbon Cairngorms.

Adapting to climate change and cutting greenhouse gases are vital to ensure Cairngorms National Park thrives. The new five year Partnership Plan (2012-2017) for the Park sees households and businesses adapting to a low carbon economy as a key measure of success.

Using renewable sources of energy to heat our homes, businesses and public spaces is something many people can do, and there is lots of help and information out there for the taking to make it as easy as possible. Using wood for heat can save you money too - good for the planet, good for your pocket!

Explore whether logs, chips or pellets would be the best option for you.  Learn about wood fuelled heating systems, browse our directory to find an installer or buy woodfuel and find out how to store and season firewood.  Discover how to manage woods for fuel, get into the firewood business or work together with friends and neighbours to create a community woodfuel scheme.  Find out why farmers and land managers are turning to trees and exploring new ways to collaborate to meet the increasing demand for quality firewood.

Putting woodlands to work

Small woodlands on farms are increasingly being looked upon as potential sources of both woodfuel and timber. An event in March hosted by the Crown Estate, Tomintoul, was attended by more than 35 guests from in and around the National Park. They learnt how to maximise the value of timber by reaching new markets, and enjoyed demonstrations of harvesting and processing machinery. The potential to reduce heating costs and carbon footprint with a secure and sustainable fuel supply was also explored.

If any skin reddening (erythema) is visible 16-24h after any exposure, then further exposures should cease and may be continued the following week with the advice of a health care provider. It is also not generally possible for systems to provide domestic hot water in the summer. Yes, to make sure that you are getting the best from your sauna, it is exactly the above five aspects that you should concentrate on, though I can think of a lot of other benefits that you get from a sauna. In a conventional sauna the average person sweats out 3% toxins and 97% water. Ducted systems experience heat losses from ducting under the floor or in the ceiling. Studies have shown that near infrared light stimulates white blood cell production, promotes cell regeneration, restores enzyme activity, and reduces cell death.

You programme it to heat the water in the cylinder at certain times of day, so there's enough hot water at times when you want a bath or to do the washing up and so on. However, you can't spontaneously decide to have a bath at random times of the day, as the water in the cylinder may have cooled down by then. Wood gasification maximizes fuel usage by burning virtually all the wood gases for heat exchange— leaving very little soot, ash or creosote residue. Thus, smaller less expensive systems help make more biomass installations possible by improving the payback and reducing the initial cost, as well as helping us stretch our grant dollars further for the brief time they are available. And the lower temperatures make breathing much easier and safer. In order to improve your sleep quality, consider using a sauna session in the afternoon or before dinner in order to allow the body to cool down by bedtime.

Long-term stress is the cause of countless physiological effects on the body, including increased blood pressure, weight gain and weakening of the immune system. But gas heating produces small amounts of waste products: gases including carbon monoxide which are dangerous, and water vapour, which can lead to condensation and mould problems. They may cause staining within the room (particularly from open fires). 2) As for time length and heat, I personally pushed the unit I could test in Bangkok at the maximum of 66 Celsius/150 Fahrenheit starting at my third session, Dr Clement from the Hippocrates institute recommends a FIS” session of 70-80 Celsius/160-180 degrees Fahrenheit, for 15-30 minutes I would love to go higher but I definitely feel its still quite an experience so far in the last 5 minutes to hang in there.

How To Use Your SaunaSpace® Near Infrared Sauna

Saunas have been perceived to be an item of luxury. 1) Heavy metal detox and a way to remove BPA from the body, while my diet is very clean when I stay in a country over a few weeks and can find local sources of organic vegetables and meats, I still accumulate toxins from restaurant food or from weed for which I joined Marijuana Anonymous, the air I breathe and just from days I did not eat a perfect meal.

As long as it is installed and used correctly, a wood heating system is an efficient, environmentally friendly and cost effective means of heating your home, and they are likely to become increasingly popular in the years to come as our planet's climate changes and the demand grows for renewable sources of energy.

Some types of space heating devices such as portable gas heaters can be as much as five times more expensive to operate than others, such as heat pumps (see Figure 1). The actual amounts may differ slightly depending on individual circumstances - households that can source free firewood will have lower costs than indicated for the wood burner here, for example.

At this young age they cannot regulate their body temperature and this could possibly lead to over heating. These heaters do work well in lay down units or where the infrared heat is a few inches from the body, but not in a large sauna cabin. This technology is also similar to laser device for hair regrowth like Hairmax and laser caps. Unlike dry heat sauna, which provides superficial level of detoxification, far infrared sauna stimulates the body at the cellular level. If sauna cabin temperature becomes too hot for your comfort, or the cabin becomes ‘stuffy', you may slide open the ceiling vent to or, just open the door for a minute or so, to let some fresh air inside. Costs for installing a whole biomass system, a stove and a boiler could be more than £15,000. Some fixed gas heaters use fan-powered flues or ‘balanced' flues: they draw in outdoor air, heat it, then return it outdoors.

Health Benefits Of Infrared Saunas (& The Risks)

The mostcommon type of far infrared sauna is a cabin which resembles a traditional steam sauna. They are usually most favored ones and popular brands are Dynamic Infrared and JNH LifeStyles. Damage caused by fire and smoke are covered under standard homeowners and "renters insurance policies,” said Loretta Worters , vice president of the I.I.I. Homeowners are also covered for water or other damage caused by fire fighters working to extinguish the blaze.

Propane is one of the cleanest burning fuels, and it doesn't strain the electric grid, reducing the risk of power furnaces to fireplaces, propane offers new ways to make any home affordably warm and comfortable year round, while protecting the environment.

Users of far infrared saunas are able to improve blood flow, circulation and reduce the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes and other associated health conditions, according to research reported in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

The EPA has a certification program for wood stoves. Few stoves burn properly with water boilers; the ESSE & Broseley wood cookers and the Charnwood Island IIIb, Country 16b & ESSE 700b stoves are probably the best on the market. Get out as soon as it feels like enough, even if you've only been in a few minutes. The biggest mistake people make with space heaters is placing them too close to flammable materials such as bedspreads, draperies, upholstery or clothing. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating. Some include a catalytic combustor that allows combustion gases to burn at lower temperatures, thereby cleaning the exhaust gas while generating more heat. Using an infrared sauna is a powerful way to cleanse your body of harmful toxins stored in your body. The body will begin to shunt blood back towards the light on the opposite side, which results in improved circulation.

Saunas can help those with breathing or sinus conditions breathe better. In comparison to Darby, Thompson Falls has a small bin that holds about 5-6 tons of fuel, which was designed to hold enough to keep the boiler running in low fire mode over a long holiday weekend covering three of the coldest days of the year, to avoid requiring maintenance attention.

Please note that this are rough estimations and that the heat output required to effectively heat your home also depends on factors such as insulation, size of your home/rooms, the usual winter temperatures in your area and the desired average room temperature.

Please remember that infrared heat is simply radiant energy in the form of a band of light that radiates heat penetrating the skin to a depth of 1.5 inches or more. Although natural gas from the mains is the most energy efficient and so the cheapest option, according to Which? However, their combustion still produces greenhouse gas emissions and any gas appliance should be flued or well ventilated when used. If I can get into an infrared sauna for like half an hour, my skin really seems to like that. CLEAN BURNING - No wood to handle or ashes to clean. The intensity of a sauna's heat can dry out hair shafts. An Aufguss session in progress might be indicated by a light or sign hung above the sauna entrance. This forces your body to sweat and increases your heart rate. Now let's get on with our discussion of DHW systems. The largest capacity Solar Water Heating System is supplied by us to a process industry M/s. And because all heaters use gas, you can save up to 70% compared to heating with electricity.

Infrared Sauna Guide

Energy efficient heating systems use less energy and are therefore less harmful for the environment. 250-watt incandescent red bulbs like this one from Philips or this bulb from SaunaSpace are the type to use. Ah-h-h, the sauna feels so good. An individual with insensitivity to heat should not use an infrared sauna. Store your wood away from the house in case termites discover the woodpile. Heating with biomass and thermal storage also provides the possibility to combine other renewable heating sources such as solar heating systems. Some controls are standard features in new boilers, while others can be added on to save energy (see the Modifications by Heating System Technicians” section on the heating maintenance page ). As wood is a low-energy-density fuel, you'll need lots of storage space to make this a feasible option.

Saunas, particularly infrared saunas, are getting a lot of press these days. You should also avoid using a sauna or steam room if you are under age 18, if you suffer from circulatory problems, heart disease, high or low blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy, or any other condition like hair loss (if you use any DHT blocker) that may affect your body's reaction to high temperatures.

Evaporative coolers can increase heating bills and allow a house to heat up faster when not operating, because large volumes of air can be sucked out of the house through the evaporative unit. They can be used along with a stove, or on their own, and are particularly good for homes not connected to mains gas. Our Sauna Reviews page highlights the brands that provide the best proven detoxification benefits. This will help soften the tissues, increase the strengthening caused by physical therapy, help remove defects and lessen the effects of Arthritis on the victim. For patients with these health considerations, some physicians recommend shorter IR sauna sessions at lower temperatures with a friend nearby in case a physical weakening may occur. In the event of a serious adverse reaction reported to the tanning establishment, the user should be advised to consult their health care provider.

Since the electricity that is used in heat pump moves heat instead of generating it, this system has the tendency to use up more energy. Replace water heater with 0.80 EF or higher tanked natural gas or propane water heater. It also relaxes the muscles and can relieve both physical and mental stress making it a healthy and beneficial supply of natural energy for the body. Besides being less efficient at heating a home, a poorly burning fire contributes to local air pollution, emitting particulate matter. Sometimes referred to as a sidekick or furnace helper, all meaning it is a furnace used in conjunction with your primary gas, oil or electric furnace. Make sure your furnace is in good working condition. When you come to the sauna, it will help you to sweat off all the toxins.

This lack of conversion efficiency makes wood an expensive option as a main source of heat. The main purpose of this design is to reduce electric field and EMI exposure, which are the most common EMF exposures in this type of sauna or blue light exposure to treat acne. Heat pumps tend to work most efficiently at temperatures above freezing. For the 15% of people in the UK that are not connected to the gas grid, heating the home can be expensive and options limited. Always use appropriate caution when using electrical appliances with water; carefully read and follow all manufacturer's directions. Pellet fired systems are available and appropriate for a fairly wide range of facility sizes. Electrical heating elements are embedded in the bricks to heat them, and then the stored heat can be released through the radiator, heating the air above it. Some are fan-assisted, meaning they have fans inside that move the warm air through the heater.

Heavy metal detoxification program, many sessions over a short period of time. Wood furnaces can be used alone to heat your home, or can be combined with your current furnace system. Blood flow during a sauna session is reported to rise from a normal 5-7 quarts a minute to as many as 13 quarts a minute. Many toxins can be eliminated through the skin by sweating. We fit Pellet boiler stoves, for pellet room heating stoves. The degree of tanning is dependent on a number of biological factors, one of which is the person's skin type. Heatmasterss indoor/outdoor furnaces are among the most effective boilers available today. In Russia, public saunas are strictly single-sex 34 , while in Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, both types occur. This means that around 30% of the rated heat output is radiated to the ambient air and around 70% of the rated heat output goes to the water.

Infrared Sauna Savvy

12 Years ago we used to get calls from people researching infrared saunas and they would ask, I'm interested in a sauna. Today's stoves and high-efficiency fireplace inserts are far more fuel-efficient than they used to be and remain a vast improvement on open-hearth, masonry fireplaces of a century ago, which actually pulled more heat from the house than they put back in. While a high-tech wood stove can perform at about 75 percent efficiency with minimal emissions and creosote build-up, the best you can expect from a wood-burning furnace is an efficiency rating of 55 percent, with higher emissions.

The heat from an infrared sauna works to effectively improve the flow of blood from the heart out towards the skin while an increased metabolic rate also means that the body starts to sweat, burning off calories, removing toxins from the body, and even improving the look and health of your skin.

Not only have we been making wood burning stoves, add-on wood furnaces and multi-fuel wood furnaces for 30 years, we talk to people that have every kind of stove, furnace and indoor/outdoor boiler you can think of. We hear a lot of stories, both good and bad.

Drink plenty of good water, fruit juice, iced tea, green tea before, during and after your sauna routine (water is provided and coconut water and/or electrolyte water will be available for purchase). Hot air rises to the ceiling, so if you have a ceiling fan with a reverse-direction option, consider using it at a low speed to help circulate the hot air more evenly through the room without creating a downward breeze. As the infrared light penetrates your body and stirs up cells, you might experience old emotions or taste old medication. A good rule-of-thumb is that a stove rated at 60,000 British Thermal Units (Btu) can heat a 2,000-square-foot home, while a stove rated at 42,000 Btu can heat a 1,300-square-foot space. Using biomass will reduce your dependence on traditional fuels, such as gas and electricity.

Infrared Saunas Will Not 'Detoxify' You

Sitting in a sauna for a period of time will lead to sweating, which has many health benefits. The recommended schedule within the international standard IEC 60335-2-27 Ed. 5.1 2012-11 follows that the initial dose should not exceed 100 J/m² for untanned skin and that a waiting period of 48h should be respected between the first and second exposure to allow time to check for unexpected side effects.

A general rule of thumb for annual consumption could be to assume 20% of natural gas consumption for domestic hot water heating.Multiply both the total usage by month and the cost per month by the percentage used for space heating (see the example at left).

If you've ever felt run-down, sluggish or just plain gross, perhaps after a whirlwind trip or a gluttonous holiday, you know how it is. In order to maintain my mental performance and to feel and look good, I help my body get rid of toxins through the skin, and there is no better way to do that than far infrared saunas.

Receive $500 off a High Tech Health sauna when you let them know StudioTimeOut referred you (we don't receive any money or bonuses from their sales). The far infrared energy emitted from the lamps is close to the same wavelength as that which the body naturally emits, which usually feels more comfortable for people. The increased metabolic rate and increased blood flow is said to generate something called "resonance" within the body. However, in practice, many people who install heat pumps keep their homes significantly warmer than before - so they get increased comfort rather than lower power bills. You'll know if you have district heating if you have no boiler, and you get your hot water via a centralised heating source from insulated pipes. Studies have shown that frequent sauna use does indeed help in weight loss as the high temperature acts not only on the muscle tissue but also on the fatty tissues of the body. You won't own the house long enough to recoup the cost of installation.

Sauna therapy has been used for a very long time to help increase the circulation of your blood and it will even help to allow your body to repair itself much faster. Propane/Natural gas heating systems can be hot water boilers(like the Polaris) , hot air furnaces (van uses a lot of power), water heaters, vented space heaters, fireplaces and non vented space heaters (most require no electricity and are 100% efficient).

Almost all heating systems require some form of electricity to operate whether it for the fans (oil, wood or gas hot air furnace), circulating pumps (oil, wood or gas boiler), thermostatic and safety controls (almost every system) or auger (wood pellet grill smokers) and electric stoves.

A feeder device, like a large screw, drops a few pellets at a time into the combustion chamber for burning. Another good aspect about infrared saunas is that they run on a much lower temperature (around 120 to 150 degrees F.) Since this is so it makes it much easier for children to use. Photobiomodulation by red and near infrared lights can help accelerate wound healing and reduce inflammation of the skin. Manufacturers advise removing unused pellets from the stove hopper and feed system at the end of the heating season. Traditional Saunas must heat the air around the person, which in turn heats the person after the air is sufficiently heated. As with wood, you'll need lots of space to store your fuel, and it can be an effort to move the coal and feed the boiler. Studies have shown that benefits of an infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories (40 minutes) while you relax! Anyone with a silicone implant should check with a doctor before using an infrared sauna.

Sauna Safety Tips & Rules For Using Infrared Saunas

3 A combi or combo system CANNOT qualify for both the heating system and water heater rebates; it counts as one measure. Perhaps the most immediate relief you will get from basking in a Vital Sauna is simple relaxation, as it melts away the stresses and tensions of the fast-paced life, leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated! These foldable infrared saunas are not heavy and you can take them wherever you go. The calorific value of wood is low so you have to keep feeding it to get the output, which is not easy if you leave early for work and arrive home late. I used to do this to bring down the temperature and get some air. Sessions in a far infrared sauna are more effective at dilating peripheral blood vessels, so you receive greater pain reduction. The difference between an infrared sauna and the traditional Finnish-style saunas is that the latter heats you up from the outside in, like an oven.

Infrared saunas rely on the directed and concentrated application of far-infrared radiant (FIR) heat to the body. One of the detox strategies employed by Dr. George Yu, a surgical oncologist in Washington D.C who also happens to be a colleague of Dr. Clement's, is based on using very high doses of niacin, up to 5,000 milligrams, along with intense exercise immediately followed by a sauna.

Hot objects radiate more infrared than cooler ones - you can feel the heat from the hot cup of coffee, but not from cold table surface. Far Infrared Light is the commonly recommended type when it comes to use in saunas. Price - Sunlighten saunas vary in price but fall in the $2000 range. Sweating will increase with regular use, removing toxins and leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Propane gas fireplaces can be turned off easily with a switch - or even a remote control - eliminating any concern about the smoldering embers that may remain after a wood fire is extinguished.
